fl350 dilema
« on: February 06, 2016, 10:53:40 AM »
Hi Guys, Mark here,  I finally got around to gettting my fl350 up and running. It hasn't been running in at least 10 years. The motor turns over but won't start. The compression is low, 40psi, but will hold at 120 for a bit with a few drop of oil in the cyl making me think it's the rings. (actually a mechanic buddy has been messing with it and that's the info). The big question is how big and expensive of a project is a rebuild, and is it worth it for me to do? I'm really not sure what I want to do with the machine and have way to many projects as it is. Should I consider Ebaying it as is??
Or, could someone connect me to a decent rebuild article?

If you can get your mechanic friend to pull the engine out and the cylinder off, it can be bored to the next larger size with new rings. Since the crank seals are probably original, I would suggest replacing those as well. You do not need to split the cases. You can use self tapping screws and pliers to pull them out then install new ones from the outside. You will need to pull the pull starter, flywheel, clutch and counter balancer gears.

I just did my top end and changed the crank seals for all the seals and gaskets and piston and bore I put in about 300.00 dollars.doing everything myself but the bore . You said the compression is about 40 then jumps to 120 with oil then you need it bored out what size piston is in it now does the cylinder still have room our do you need it sleeved pictures always help . Did you do a leak and vac um test on it . If you do get the work done make sure to do both test if you have a leak you can ruin your new piston and bore job fast . A good running motor can last a long time 2strokes just take a little more care but I think there worth it .

I do not suggest sleeving a 350. We now have 82.5 pistons even if it was worn out on the last Wiseco size: http://www.odysseypilot.com/index.php/topic,4183.msg113252.html#msg113252
