Keyless ignition switch?
« on: January 29, 2013, 05:22:03 PM »
I just bought a FL350R and the ignition switch is all jacked so you have to use a screwdriver to turn it on. My questions is this: if I don't need a keyed ignition can I just use a heavy duty three blade toggle switch from Ace Hardware or something until I can get the 50 bucks together to order a proper replacement?

The motor runs and everything but I am on a pretty tight budget until my next paycheck in a couple of weeks having just paid for the Odyssey and of course DMV fees. I'd like to put that $50 towards buying some other things like a clutch or seals rather than an ignition switch if a proper replacement exists going the hardware store method.

I see the replacement switch Aftershock sells has three wires so I know I will need a switch with three blades since there is a red, green, and black wire. I wanted to get this one but it only seems to have two blades and not sure how I would wire that:

I wound up buying this little guy for about 10 bucks from Autozone.

I did not have time to try it out yesterday because I was rearranging the garage to make room for my rebuild project.

The factory switch is 4 wires and so is: http://www.aftershockmotorsports.com/Honda-FL350R-Odyssey/Electrical-Gauges/Ignition-Key-Switch . Two of them connect together when in the off position to act like a kill switch which I don't think an automotive switch would do.

I didnt notice that one lead in the rubber jacket before when I first glanced at that picture. Thanks for correcting me. I found a cheapo 4 wire setup locally and am going to give that a try.
