top end rebuilt for 350 in los angeles area

posting this for a buddy. he took his 350 out a few weeks ago out to pismo beach ca. i did a quick tune up for him.however,he forgot to put the air filter back on.

well, i guess you know what happened.i towed it back to camp after 15 minutes or so. no compression!!!!!!!!

he's looking for a mechanic in the los angeles area who works on fl350s. anyone??

If it ingested sand, the bottom end may not be to healthy anymore either.

thats what i'm thinking..other then the less of compression what sign would indicate the bottom end as well?..rocking,sputtering noise etc?

You need to get the jug off so you won't feel any resistance from the piston and spin the crank with your hand. Look for any rough feeling while turning it. It should feel very smooth. Also grab the clutch and check for any front to back or up and down movement in the crank. Any of these tests not being up to par will mean trashed bearings.... The bad part is it may not have ran long enough to cause major wear but enough could be present that it could result in failure after a short time running.You also want to check the rod for endplay or excessive side to side movement.

Hoodlum gave good info. One thing on the 350 is that since the counter balancer gears are on the left side of the engine, there are two seals between the end of the crank and the bearing that can dampen the movement and make it hard to feel.
