motor over heating

I have a fl250,has been rebulided and bored.The motor gets so hot that it loses power,what is causing it?

Sounds like you are running lean,either from jetting or an air leak....

I would agree. A modified engine can run hot too, but just an overbored engine should not if jetted properly. An air leak is the most likely if jetting was previously correct.

Are you using the right fuel mixture? I have had so many mechanics tell me "It's ok to run leaner than 20/1". Personally, I won't do it.

Is it sputtering, or otherwise acting up in any way other than getting hot (BEFORE it gets hot)?

Using less oil is not leaner. The terms rich/lean are for air/fuel mix, not fuel to oil. Using lean to describe oil mix leads to confusion.
