« on: September 26, 2011, 10:21:22 PM »
i have a 1985 odyssey fl350 and i cant get it to run right it runs perfict till about 1/4 throttle i was told by a mechanic that it seems like its an ignition problem and not a carb problem. could not having a battery on it or a change switch on the trans have anything to do with it.

If the change switch is missing, both the wires that went to it need to be grounded. If not, the electric start will not work and the reverse rev limiter will engage all the time.

Really late in my response but hopefully it will help someone searching.

If the change switch is missing, both the wires that went to it need to be grounded. If not, the electric start will not work and the reverse rev limiter will engage all the time.

This, check the change switch in the back of the transmission.

Green/red wire grounded will allow you to start it but will have a rev limiter and cant go past 1/4 throttle.

Gray wire grounded will release that limiter but wont allow you to start it.

I could have those wires reversed but I will verify it tonight and post up.

I tried grounding both wires and it was still limited, grounding just the one wire gave me full power. I'm in the process of running a 3 pole switch to the front for easy starting.

I have both wires grounded on all my machines. Are you sure when you had them both grounded that maybe the one could have been a bad connection?

I?m pretty sure I had both grounded.

I had none grounded took it for a drive, I hit the limiter. Then said oopsit and grounded both of the wires, it still bogged. I hooked only one of the wires up and it ran great.

I will do it again and verify it today, I must have done something some ware to get a different behavior.
