Engine protection mode
« on: June 25, 2009, 07:30:49 AM »
Hello all! :)

Some of you may remember I've had difficulties with my Pilot after the belt snapped.  I finally gave up trying to fix it and sent it to some professionals.

Basically, it won't rev past a certain level.  I'd checked compression, fuel, air, exhaust, spark, reed valve etc.

They stuck it on a diagnostic machine and found out that at 3k revs the electronics are deliberately cutting the spark so it won't rev higher.  They believe this is because the revs bounced stupidly high when the belt snapped and the electronics put it into some sort of 'limp home' mode.

The only issue is, they don't know how to get it out of this 'limp home' mode.  Has anyone experienced this, and do you know how to reset the thing?

There appears to be no engine damage (it idles fine) so the rev limited worked!

Thanks.

I'm not aware of any limp home mode with the Pilots. Do you know anyone with a box you could swap with yours?

Bugger, could it be a dry solder or something then?

I unfortunately don't know anyone else who has one.

Well, fortunately the garage I sent it to had a contact who had a spare ignition module, so ?100 later it's fixed!

However, is the clutch dry or does it have oil?  Because I was driving today and what looks like oil is all over the engine bay.  As far as I was aware, the only fluids in the thing were water and petrol!

Problem after problem!

The clutches are dry. My thought is it's anti freeze. It's kind of oily. They do have oil in the bottom end of the engine and in the transmission, so it could be getting around.
