how to remove the spark advancer thingy
« on: January 09, 2009, 08:49:25 PM »
have the flywheel off and now there is this timing advance / spark advancer round is on the crankshaft how does it come off?  is it just pushed on  is there a puller to use ?
help.
 thanks

found that the crank is all rusted up  will have to be sandblasted  possibly taken apart to replace the needle bearing for rod.  will def. need new crank bearings...

anyone have a 250 or 350 motor that is good and cheap?

I've never worked on a points ignition 250 before, but the assembly should be shown in the manual. You might be able to look at the parts breakdown on www.servicehonda.com and be able to figure it out. Talk to Weed at pilot and odyssey performance about getting the crank rebuilt.

seems to be no place to put a puller on it without being afraid of breaking of the upper lip of the advancer.  does not look to be threaded as it should rotate with the motor and be able to turn a bit to advance automatically when rpms adjust.  I guess just frozen on the shaft will try pb fluid.

PB blaster is amazing stuff, and indispensable when working on a rusted up FL250.
