New paddle tires for the 420!

I trashed my 24" Skat Traks extremes on the big Western ride so I was "Jones'ing" for something new. I got these from a guy at Walden. He had them on a fairly stock 350 but didn't have the ponies to push em hard. They are like new Sand Tires Unlimited Sand Blasters 26-12(26" tall by 12" wide) molded, not vulcanized, light weight racing paddle. For comparisons, the Extremes were 24" tall by 9.5" wide with eight 7/8" tall paddles. The Blasters have 16 1" tall paddles but also weigh 4.5 pounds more than the extremes. I shouldn't rip off the paddles anymore though. He said he gave well over $600 for the tires/rims and I got them for $200. Not too bad?

If my 420 doesn't have the HP then hopefully the 600AC EFI will. If it still too much tire, then I am sure one of the Drak guys may be interested.

Has any one tried sand shark 20"x11"x10" on the 350cc ody? I bought a pair for 20 dollars?? I was going to buy new rims this week, unless someone has some "hand me downs" they want to sell.
I am curious if the short tires will work in the sand, especially after seeing these monsters!!! I was going to get some 22-11-10's but fell into these...

I've run that exact tire on a FL400 and they seem to work good...
You will lose a little top end but for $20 you really can't go wrong plus they are molded so you shouldn't lose any paddles...

They seem to steer much better than the straight paddles I also have...

22" or 24" on stock machines
24" or > on high HP machines

I run a 10 paddle 22x11x10 Skat Trak Haulers on my stock pilot
I run a 11 paddle 25x12x10 Skat Trak Extreme Haulers on the 670 rotax pilot

Sand eats/robs some power so your usually better off running a slightly smaller tire than stock

It also depends on the type and condition of the sand - wet sand will yield better traction and dry soft sand will bog ya down....

Some say 20" is to small but I'd say run them a while and see for yourself...

Dennis is right on the money with tires and sizes.  I have run 20" Sand Stars and Sand Sharks on my 350s. Great for excelleration and climbing, but down on top end. Still plenty fast to get yourself in trouble though(double endo for instance) LOL.

When you pick rims, go with aluminium .190s. The lighter ones(.120,.160) bend easier when "bad things" happen. Beadlocks also help keep sand out of the beads and the air leaks that always come with low air pressure sand riding, but are expensive(on my military pay).
