Why do Venders get such a bad RAP? & Ludedude's Vent too
« on: April 02, 2004, 11:58:33 AM »
All we try to do is provide products and service to our customers. Somebody has to do it. There are groups of people that think we should just give the stuff away. Its like we have to buy there friendship or something. If we dont do it were are just called SCUM resellers. I take real offence to this to the point I am ready to stop doing it all together. Eventually there will be no one left then what will happen. Where will we go? Am I wrong with this line of thinking? Vent Rant Off!  :(

I had a pleasant time buying from you.

Yes we had a couple minor things to get through. But, we got through them no problem in my book.

I'm very pleased with what I purchased and the costs associated.

As to the rants of the past:
I at a few points in time thought of offering a few circuits for sale
that I could build. I just don't think its worth the hassle to me to sell
and support them. So in turn I just posted the schematic and parts lists.

I think it was you that pointed me to the Banjoe bolt switch. What a cool
switch its simplistic and easy to use.

But, if anyone was really interested I would by all means help them build
it or would trade work instead.

But, its a lot like when I help someone with a computer problem. IE> they are virused beyond beleif and are totally clueless. After they ask to clean them up give them the explanations what not to do and what was affected. I get calls "ever since you fixed my computer I it won;t do x y z....".  Did it used to do X Y Z? Well kind of but you fixed it so it should be able to do it now...... Or why am I keep getting these messages that the email or file is infected I thought you cleaned up my computer.
Mind you its always for free I do this. But, the backend pain is just not worth the aggrevation.
So sad to say I don't fix other peoples computers anymore.

Its the same progression of offering help being beaten up for the help and then it starts all over again. How many iterations of that before someone says screw it.

So hang in there!

Ody keep providing the stuff.   Just get the ok from the forum management and be reasonable.  To me, it is helpful to learn about products in the forums - how else is Joe Blow going to know you have seat covers.  Items like the shocks - just price them fair and represent them honestly.  I would rather buy shocks for a Pilot from someone that knows about a Pilot and can answer questions specific to the Pilot - as long as the price is fair. Forget outer space - you don't need it.

ODY,
I totally agree that I would rather pay a few bucks more and buy from a guy that knows Pilots. Keep going. But just remember that once you start to sell, you are on the other side of the counter and open yourself up to all kinds of grief. I used to collect vintage microphones and recording equipment because I loved doing it. Soon I had enough gear to open a recording studio, and I did. My hobby then became my business. Now I hate the music business so much I can only stand to listen to talk radio.

MGR is 100% right.
Generally the one doing the most bitching is the one who has the freest time, the comparable shop equipment needs and the greatest technical knows how (in his own opinion). Yet this person would rather sit back and complain about others venture into a risky territory. Sure there are going to be bad products made, products pushed out without decent testing or quality control, but this is what makes a product better. To keep dragging a product through the muck is mindless and non productive. If the bashers put forth any effort to make a product better than what is given, THEN DAMN WELL DO IT! Quit making excuses about this or that, put your nads on the line and create something better. After all this is what the industrialized Americans did. They built the better mousetrap to compete against another.

My turn to vent!

And while I worry some of you may take this the wrong way, I'm going to chance it anyhow.

Anything I've sold for pilots to date has not been made by me. I merely by in bulk and pas savings on to whoever wants it. I do not control quality of the products. I do not control leadtimes. What I do offer is considerably lower prices. I'm just an average joe doing this on spare time...I do it to help out. I don't expect thanks in return, but an uinderstanding of what I'm dong and maybe cutting me a little slack when things don't go 100% right. I like Odyknuck, and others, get tired of the complaints. I don't make enough to make me want to put up with that.

I buy and sell to help out. Same as with this site, I'm not making anything off it, this actually costs me. Time and money. Thankfully I've got a group of guys willing to help me run it...that helps a lot.

This is not directed to everyone. I've receiver a lot of postive feedback, and thanks. Again this is not a post to try and feed my ego or anything like that. I am not looking for a bunch of thank you posts to folow this. For those who would send thanks, thank you. This is for those who maybe do not realise how, or why I, and others like me do this kind of thing. It's not to get rich, for me it's to save people money...I hate paying huge mark-ups...that's why I set up 45th Parallel ATV Products.  So I could sign up for dealer pricing for a bunch of products. And then pass some savings on to you guys.

If I did this for a living, shipping would be faster, packaging better, etc, etc. and prices would be higher, they'd have to be. So if you want lower prices, cut the guys making it possible some slack.

This post is hand in hand with Odyknuck's "why do vendors get a bad rap" We're not looking for loads of praises, but an understanding of what it takes to do this and maybe a bit more leewayy than you'd give a full retail outlet.

Rant off, I'm climbing out of the sandbox now, dusting myself off and getting back to work....ahh I feel better now...playing in the sand is supposed to be theraputic (sp?) :)

Folks this is important.  We collectively don't want these suppliers to go away.  Read those comments again.  Be willing to cut these guys some slack.  If it was not for the great price on the clutches I would not have purchased two of them.  I head a quip on the  radio this morning "Perfection is the enemy of progress".  If you always require perfection before you move ahead you will find yourself at a stand still.  I think this kinda applies here.  If you have to have a perfection transaction everytime you need to go to a regular retailer and pay full price (good luck there as well).

Ive tried to buy Pilot parts from Nick in SoCal a couple of times and finally gave up,i lost count of how many times i emailed him asking if he had the parts i was after...he replied weeks later...i thought ok he's busy or something, then i needed to get a postage quote so i could pay him an he just sent me the same email he had sent before saying he had the parts....over and over again,i even resorted to posting on POOA for him to get back to me !!!!!
I just don't have any luck with trying to get parts out of the US,I'm resigned to the fact i think !
Don't get me wrong i think Nick is a cool guy, anyone committed to Pilot parts selling is OK by me !

Cheers

I personally have had great success with Nick. He's gone above and beyond for me, that's why I asked him if I could put up some info about him in the vendor section. I always get speedy replies via email, and am very happy with his help. We've had a few mix-ups, but he is always very willing to make things right. Now it may be an issue of I've bought a fair bit from him, he know that usually when I ask, I want them, and so I get the attention?? Not sure. Bite the bullet, order from Nick, I'm sure he'll come through and get your parts. Nick too is somone who does this in spare time, and yes, he may be busy at times.

Oh, for instance, this just came to mind....when I did a bulk buy on rims...he didn't really want/need any, but I was short on numbers so he offered to buy a set.  ;)

I have a UPS account and I make shipping easier for Nick by letting him just 3rd party bill the packages to me. Costs me more than if he sent them through USPS, but saves the hassle of shipping quotes. Nick has also shipped parts then charged me for shipping after the fact.

OK, enough. That's my personal experience. You guys in Kanga Land have to get the US biys to overcome the fear of shipping to you. I had to do the same getting them to ship things to Eskimo land. I think the majority have not shipped out of country and fear the unkown?

Take care Tony, let me know if I can help you out in anyway.

I have had 2-3 guys say I'm not responding to them.. I'm guessing that it may have something to with my spam blocker. I prefer you use my email address  if you see my item on EBAY ,it is  [email protected]     don't use the "ask seller a question" link. Put  something in the "subject " line of your email i.e" pilot parts wanted" - don't leave it blank. I try to sell used parts for 40%-60% of SERVICE HONDA . If my price seems high on an item , call me on it -I make mistakes and different people call parts by different names- a part # helps and avoids confusion. I almost always offer money back if not happy and if you buy a pricey item- motor or tranny you can have 3-4 weeks to have your mechanic look at it. I try to be fair and feel good if I can help out another Pilot owner. I didn't respond to this earlier because selling used Pilot parts has made me a bizzilloinaire and I was too busy touring Tijauna ,Mexico. Because of the huge demand of used Pilot parts I will be selling franchises to the first 3000  people who contact me- this  means there will be a PILOT PARTS STORE for every 3 Pilots in No. America...............

ROFLMFAO!!! Nick does it again!!!

For the record, I know I'm a scumbag and rank right down there with the convicted felons, but I've done business with Nick and he's truly a pleasure to do business with!!! It doesn't hurt to be on his e-mail list, either!
I started out with nothing and I still have most of it left!

Yes- it has been given to PILOTSNAPPER for the kind words I paid him to say about me. It will consolidated with a CARL'S JR and a video porn store in Florida.
