General Discussion / fl350 not reving
« on: June 22, 2009, 09:26:50 PM »
Knocking is not good. I agree with odypiots. Check the jetting. I think you might be on the lean side instead of rich though. Check this site to learn about jetting a 2-stroke.

Axles are $125 each plus shipping, they will work for either side. If you replace the springs on the shocks I have then you will just have a spring on a worn out shock.

Do you have a manual? Here is the factory manual in electronic form.

It would also be a good idea to do some reaqding and get a firm grasp of how a 2-stroke engine works. You gotta have some basic knowledge or you are gonna do more damage that costs a lot more to fix in the long run. If you don't think you can handle the job contact someone that does know and can fix your engine right. One I would recommend is weed from this site. you can contact him the www.pilotodysseyperformance.com.

I've got a pair of stock rear shocks, but about the only thing they are good for is that they are the right length. I doubt that there is any "shock" left in them.

If you want 'em You pay $20 bucks for my time to take them off the machine plus shipping and they are yours. I also have 2 stock FL350 axles, but they are considerably more.

Odyssey FL350R / fl250 with fl350 exhaust?
« on: June 12, 2009, 08:18:44 AM »
It'll probably run, but not as well as the stock 250 pipe. The chamber design is all wrong.

The exhaust system in a complete 2-stroke engine system is responsible for probably 20% or more of the total power available.

Stick with the FL250 pipe and you'll be much happier.

Several possibilities.
Clutch is bent, Clutch bolt is bent, crank is bent, optical illusion

If you know that the clutch is for the FL350 you may need to remove the clutch and check the run out on the crank shaft. It is possible you have a bent crank.

you can build a leak tester for less than $30. A new top-end or worse will cost many times that much.

A bigger carb is not the issue. You need to adjust your jetting. You may have to re-ring or even install a new piston in this motor. 90-100 pounds of compression is too low for a 350.

With 2 strokes jetting is the key to long life. You could put a holley 4 barrel on the engine and it wouldn't make a difference as to how it runs if it isn't jetted correctly.

Take a look at this article in order to get a better grip on jetting.

This book is fantastic and even though its old most of the information is still very valid!

Unfortunately I have to say I think a rebuild is in your near future.

Before you tear it down do a leak down test on it to see if you had air leaking into the engine causing the lean condition.

Oil at 32:1 is fine. The more oil you add will actually cause the engine to run leaner. The oil displaces the amount of fuel in a given volume.

Lean vs rich is a FUEL and AIR issue. It has NOTHING to do with how much oil you run.

Read this book. It will help tremendously with your understanding of how a 2 stroke engine works.

Is the cylinder head chamber smooth? If there is a chunk missing or several pits from a previous piston failure you could have a hot spot developing in the head which is causing your problem. Also excessive carbon buildup could cause a hot spot.

Just to clarify lean or rich does not indicate how much oil you are running. Read this article on jetting.

What is the compression in PSI? Have you done a leakdown check? Is the clutch system operating correctly?

Do you have a manual? Free download here:

While you are at it download and read the Gordon Jennings ebook also.

Uncontrolled detonation. You need to do a leakdown check, and find the air leak that is causing the problem.
