Note to Ludedude:
I may want to get one of the Digatron gauges for my Pilot.  Do you have one available and how much is it.

AV Science is a good place for information on home theatre.  I'm partial to CRT front projection but AVS has it all.

My theater is in my basement built around a Barco Graphic 808 projector.  I use a 6' x 10' Da-Lite Perm Wall screen.  I receive 12 digital channels over the air out of Knoxville with many shows in HD.  Image quality is exceptional.

General Discussion / Probably another eBay scam
« on: June 19, 2004, 10:42:01 PM »
I posted this at Pilot-Odyssy also:

There's a very nice Pilot on eBay (item# 2251466324) that is probably a scam. It has a buy it now price of $1999. This is the same scam pulled last year. You have to pre-register to bid. When you do this the seller will have your email address. They will send you a reply that the machine is out of the country so you will not be able to confirm it exist. Even if you decide not to send the crook your money, you will receive never ending offers to participate in Nigerian get rich quick scams. Been there done that. Although the scam offers I receive are coming less often, I'm still getting them after a year.

Technical / Good Price on Hand Held Radios

Could be, I bought a pair of rear shocks when I was up there.  I really appreciate you letting me get them from you, I was dead in the water without them.  If you ever get down this way look me up.

My this topic has wandered a bit!
I have purchased a set of headphone drivers that come in the Bose noise cancellation headphones.  Pick them up cheap on eBay. I'm going to try and mount them inside the helmet.  I may buy a set of chead noise cancellation headphones just for the electronics.  May have to make some modifications to raise the center cancellation frequency though. It would nice to cancel some of the background noise that makes it hard to hear radios.

I like the idea of using a reed switch for the PTT.  I understand the VOX microphones are somewhat impractical due to all the background noise and don't work very well.

If it were me, I would go ahead and clean all the connections between the battery and the starter using a small wire brush.  Pay attention to any grounds also.  Invest in a small automatic battery charger.  They cost maybe $30 to $40 at Walmart.  Make sure its an automatic.  You can overcharge a battery with a manual charger and ruin it.  It will come in handy if you ever need to charge your car battery anyway.  What takes out electronics are the high voltage surges that can occur when circuits are opened under load; keep this in mind when you are jump starting any vehicle (ie turn off both vehicle before connectons are made or broken).  Also do not connect a charger to your vehicle electrical system unless a good battery is installed.  Sometimes batteries can develop open circuits and effectively not be in the circuit.

Current is a function of resistance, reactance and voltage.  You can jump it from your vehicle as long as the voltages are the same for both systems, ie 14 VDC.  It sounds like  your battery is weak to me.  Maybe a poor connection.   Try measuring the voltage at the battery terminals and compare it with the voltage at the starter as you crank it.  The voltage at the starter should be just slightly less.  Too much drop indicates poor connections.

Here is a link to Heartland America with a good price on some 22 channel FRS/GMRS 5 mile radios.  I know sometimes it would be nice to be able to communicate with other drivers.  Not sure but I think these radios can be equipped with an earphone and vox microphone.

I think if you replace 'front' with 'rear' in Dennis's statements, they will be true.

Technical / Making brake bleeding easy!
« on: May 03, 2004, 06:17:05 PM »
I bought one of the mityvacs from my local Autozone store for $25.00.  It definately made bleeding the front brakes on the 350 much easier.  I bleed them before I had the device and thought I would never get them to pump up right.

Odyssey FL350R / FL350 Rebuild Pics

You know its posible the reason the Oddy rolled was because of the higher center of gravity.  Putting that much weight so high in the vehicle has got to have some effect on its handling.  I seriously doubt anyone in here has the engineering expertise, money, or time to study what effect a tank mounted so high has on the vehicle.  I think I would rather trust the Honda engineers who designed the machine.  I do not agree one isolated event proves anything.

Thanks for the comments guys!

The biggest reason I replaced the gravity feed tank was it blocked my rear view and I just didn't like it.  All I could see in the rear view was the black plastic tank.  I also think there is the issue of safety.  Much of the tank was outside the cage and had the potential to be punctured in an accident.  I don't really want to be burned alive in my Odyssey.

I forgot to mention a couple of other things I did to the 350;
Replaced the battery box
Used stainless steel fasteners were available.  (Some of the fasteners were Honda proprietary or need to be a higher grade).

Note to ludedude:
If an avatar is a picture of the post author that would be great.  I will probably want to change it later when I complete the rebuild on my Pilot but that will be awhile.  Please use image# fl350_2r.jpg.

Thanks,
Betelgeuse

I'm almost through rebuilding my fl350 and wanted to post some pics.

Work performed:
Replace J-arm bushings
Replace rear brake rotor & pads
Replace exhaust pipe and silencer
Install fuel tank (came with gravity feed tank)
Replace rear wheel bearings
Replace u-joints
Install OEM choke function
Replace tie rods, ends, & boot
Replace seat
Install OEM headlights
Install missing mirror
Clean & repaint everything

It was alot more work than I thought it would be.

My next project is to rebuild my Pilot.

Pilot FL400R / PILOT SEATS
« on: April 23, 2004, 09:51:11 PM »
A pilot seat and frame bolted right in (without modification) my FL350.  Not sure if the just the seat would have fit the fl350 seat frame though.
