Technical / How to adjust tie rods and turning?
« on: March 26, 2007, 10:41:43 PM »
I bent a tie rod on my 250. No problem right?... I took it off threw it in a vise and straightened it right out.

The problem is that I can't seem to adjust the steering so it's right. If I toe in the tires slightly like the manual says (by adjusting the tie rods) the turning radius is very wide. If I adjust the tie rods so I can turn sharper the tires actually end up toed out not it.

Ok, so here are my questions:

1) How do I get both slightly toed in front tires and better turning radius?
2) Is there an easy way to make sure the tires are adjusted right? The manual references an alignment tool but I don't have one of those.

Thanks

Odyssey FL250 / problem solved

Problem solved.

After closer examination, I had a bent tie rod.  It didn't look like much of a bend but it was enought to cause a problem.  I took it off, through it in a vise and straightened it right out.  Now the turning is easy but it doesn't track straight.  It pulls to the left.  I plan on tweaking the tie rods to make it pull more right.

Odyssey FL250 / Better seat for FL250?
« on: November 19, 2006, 06:35:44 PM »
My '83 fl250 is great.  Fast and fun!  The ride is a bit rough though without a rear suspension.  I think the seat angle / back support is making it worse.  After a hard day of riding, my back hurts for a couple of days.

Has anyone replaced their stock seat with something better?  What about some sort of a molded seat with more shape to it?

Odyssey FL250 / FL250 hard to turn - steering problem?
« on: November 19, 2006, 12:23:47 PM »
I went out last weekend and rode her hard.  I took a few bad bumps and noticed late in the afternoon, it was hard to steer.  I wasn't sure if it was just that my arms were tired.  After a short ride today, something is definitely wrong.  It seems to track pretty straight but is stiff as heck.  While turning it pulls hard to straighten back out.  I am guessing I bent something.  I did a quick look last night but nothing jumped out at me

It was a VERY muddy ride but both of my friends FL250's are fine.

What should I look at first?
Has anyone every had such a problem?

Any insight you can provide would be GREATLY appreciated!
