I am looking at buying an '85 FL350 for my son. He is about to turn 10 years old. I know the Odyssey's are very quick but built so much better than most other vehicles similar to it these days. The parts are getting harder to find but these vehicles are in a class by themself and to be able to buy one for between $1800 and $2500 seems like a good idea. I wondered if there is a way to reduce the speed (rev limiter, etc.) for my son while he is younger but then increase it later on when he gets older as he grows into this. Part of my indecision is based upon safety (due to high speed) and part availability. Can anyone help me out on this? Thanks.

Yep...Sure is....Cut a small piece of tube to fit around the throttle cable above the carb slide...It keeps the slide from going all the way up and limits speed....It can be adjusted with different lengths of tube as his skills increase..There is also a way to do a block inside the steering wheel but never done that one..
My daughter was riding a 350 at 11 and really enjoyed it...Only problem was getting her to learn how to work the throttle properly on a 2 stroke....They don't like for the throttle to be held in the mid-range too much...Especially if they are jetted to run clean...Just be sure to lower the needle clip until it is plenty rich in the mids to keep it from melting...Lower speeds will limit the amount of cooling air moving over the engine...A cooling fan is also a good idea for this scenario...

looks like you found out how to limit the speed.
So for parts I have found odysseysalvage.com to be great. every part, and great advise for anything you need for your FL350. check it out. Everything- they have.
