Title: 350 tire/rim questions
Post by: raider on May 23, 2004, 06:38:50 PM
I want to put some Holeshot tires on my odyssey.  They still have original tires from previous owner.  They currently have 21x7x10 (front) and 25x13.5x10 (rear).  For those of you running Holeshot tires, would you recommend same sizes?  Was considering a shorter tire for rear.

Also, I want to get rid of stock gold rims.  Got any suggestions for some white rims or aluminum?  There are different strength rims also.  Will normal rims interfere with the front wheel brake adjustment?  I dont care if it covers them and prevent running adjustment.  I just do not want the adjustments to interfere with seating of rim to hub.

Anybody got pictures of their odyssey with Holeshots all the way around?  If so, please send to me.
Thanks,
Dan

Wow, I did not know there were so many styles of Holeshot to choose from.  What tread design do yall use on Odyssey's?

You can easily purchase aluminum rims to fit the Ody, front and rear.  And yes, you'll have to take the fronts off to adjust the brakes but that is no big deal, I've been doing it on my Pilot for 4 years.
You might consider a little bit larger tire up front and a smaller tire in the rear.  22 x 7 - 10 for the front is good and 22 or 23 inch dia. x 10 or 11 inch in the rear is plenty big enough and will not cause any suspension clearance issues.
If you are running woodland trails or hard pack stuff with no rocks, any of the 4 ply rated tires will do fine.  If you are running trails with a nice compliment of rocks included, you might consider tires with a 6-ply rating.  Many of use have been there and done that over the years and have found the 6-ply rated tires are well worth the extra money when it comes to taking the abuse.
About the best value in a 6-ply rated rear tire so far has been the Dirt Devil.  I have been using Pure Sports Bandits on the front for a long time now and have had great results.
I know you said you were looking at Holeshots but you might also look at a new tire by Kenda, the "Klaw" for the rear, which has a 6-ply rating and has a real nice looking tread pattern that should hook up nicely.
Ther are MANY opinions on tires.  Search this board and the Pilot-Odyssey.com board for threads about tires.

I agree with red-whatever you choose go with the 6ply, you'll thank yourself  later.I also use the Pure sports bandits in front and sure traks in rear, absolutly the best traction for the money (here in the east coast),I have never had a flat to date running them, the wear great, and are the best all around tire for my trail, rocky riding here.
