Title: Repairing banged up stock rims.

Hello all,

I have a few banged up rims on my machine.
There not too bad.

I was able to bend some of it back but not great.

Do they make a tool that is essentially used for banging rim
beads back to round?

Otherthan a hammer and a screw driver.  :roll:

And if so are they worth it?

rim straigtening in a nutshell is beat it with a hammer and dolly.  to get all of the contours right you will probably need to heat the rim and make custom dollies to make them pretty.  cold forging sucks, the rims are mild steel so some heat will not hurt them, plus it makes it easier to straighten.

I don't need to get them perfect just better.

I noticed without heat on one of my dings it cracked when I went to
straighten it. Oh well...

I took a bolt and ground the end of it to match the shape of the lip of the stock wheels (don't know what  a dolly is in this application - could my bolt be a custom dolly).  
It's definitely aids in getting them back close to shape.  It can be a popular item on some of the mountain rides.

Yes your custom bolt would be considered a dollie.  generally a dollie is a heavy chunk of steel used as a backer(anvil)

May I suggest bead-locs -> http://www.mrt-wheels.com/catpages/page13.html as a great way to clean up your banged up rims. I did a set and think it turned out excellent. You will need to cut off the outer rolled lip to weld these on. Otherwise it was a simple upgrade. If you do this, try using white appliance pait from Wally World to give the rims a nice new look.

Yup I will graduate to bead locks someday.

The Rustoleum Appliance Paint works great! Covers well and
sticks great too.

I used it on my new front hood. ANd after ECJ I'm going to paint my
side skirts with it as well.

May I suggest a cheapie set of body dollies and hammers? Those cheap throw away ones from China. You can buy them at just about any AutoZone type store.

The set gives you all kinds of shapes to bang out rims. I use this cheapie set set instead of the good body hammers on my rims. The pick type hammer works the best.
