That is a ground wire. I suspect the large ground from the battery to the engine is broken/disconnected. So the entire power of the starter is flowing through that small ground wire instead.

Hi fellow Odds, I have just purchased a FL 350 that every-time you try to start the engine with the electric starter the green wire running in the plug next to the pull start heats up and smokes. has anybody had this issue Before?

Look at the diagram on page 8-3. The "jet needle set" with the E clip is below the plate that the spring sits on. I had it above the plate. Also, I think what I was considering was full throttle was probably not. It's just because it's so loud that it seems like it's faster than it actually is.
Also, can you tell me where the long (about 3') red wire that branches from near the coil wires goes to. Doesn't seem to be any other responses on my other post.

Hey Ifster, I'm having exactly the same issue with my fl250, when you say the needle is above the plate what do you mean by that? i have mine setup exactly like the shop manual does
its hurting my brain as to what the issue is hahaha

There's a 3', redish wire coming from the junction of the CDI and headlight harnesses. It has a push-on female end. No idea where it goes and can't find it in the diagram.
