Pilot FL400R / Pilot dual intake and a storage compartment lid
« on: February 03, 2012, 03:42:52 PM »
I've got a dual intake and a storage compartment lid on ebay for those interested.  Both have some damage but that is outlined in the auction.

My wife and I like to ride at a quick pace. We, Her and I do not race just like to have fun. Yes her ride is already ready with new motor installed. Jettted and ready to ride. It's sporting a stock bore, stock pipe, new crank and all the goddies,39mm carb with a 205 main jet. If we do come I fell we will have a good time. No bar banging thu, it cost money to repair.

I was just kidding with you about the racing and banging bars.  We ride together a good bit as a group and are use to picking at one another.  I was just dragging you into the middle of the fray.
Looks like you have done some nice work to your Pilots. Look forward to meeting you at St. Joes.

Thank you for the info. I'll see if the wife would like to take trip as well since it's a family affair. She likes to ride fast.

If she likes fast, we'll have to her and VFRpilot's wife Rhonda race.  I can just see them now banging nerfs.  A couple of guys had better start tuning their Pilots.

Pilot FL400R / pilot rear suspension
« on: June 30, 2005, 01:13:46 PM »
The LTs are typically setup with a lot more droop - it sets deeper into the suspension in a static condition.  This allows more drop out when you go over a hole, ditch, berm etc - the whole buggy doesn't drop into the depression as much.  Tends to ride more on top.  The other big benefit is when you get the wheels off the ground (jumping for example).  The wheel/suspension goes into full droop (which is more than on a stock pilot) there is much more range of motion for the suspension (longer damping stroke) to absorb the shock so it doesn't have to be as stiff (harsh).

Pilot FL400R / Bearing failure survey.
« on: March 17, 2005, 09:42:13 AM »
There is a survey relative to crank bearing failures that is in process on P-O.com.  I would like to also run the survey here to broaden the amount of data obtained.  The string explaining the problem and containing the origional survey is here:
http://www.pilot-odyssey.com/8525687400459A41/0/e767e555591aa9ca05256fc60079713a!OpenDocument

The questions are repeated below.  I have added a question pertaining to premix oil used.

As a group we should be able to work out what is happening here. Can everybody please answer the following:

1. Have you had a main bearing failure where the rivets have come out of the bearing(s)?

2. What type of clutch were you running?

3. When did you purchase the clutch?

4. Had you ever replaced the main bearings prior to the failure?

5. Which bearing (clutch side, other side or both)failed?

6. When were the main bearings that failed purchased?

7. What premix oil(s) have you been using and for how long?

If everybody (with or WITHOUT failures) answers this we should see a trend if the problem is the bearings (or any particular batch of them) or if the problem has something to do with the clutches (or any particular batch of them).

Pilot FL400R / radiator hose
« on: January 14, 2005, 09:44:27 AM »
Well skeeter I took your suggestion and was able to find the hose at one of the racing shops near here.  It is a different hose - braided with a BLUE outer sheath. Blue seems to be a popular color for the high tech hoses.  I quess it works with the color scheme under the hood for the hotrods.

I think I need to engineer Redrooters radiator hose with my pocketknife.   Just the right amount of weakening at the right location should be undectable - it will certainly never overheat due to "excessive operation of said vehicle."

Pilot FL400R / radiator hose
« on: January 09, 2005, 09:29:04 PM »
The rocketship has a cracked radiator hose - right at the fitting to the water pump.  This Pilot has a relocated radiator.  I need to buy new hose but need to buy something really tough since it is right above my head.  How/where can I get other than standard radiator hose?  Moskito -all the hose that is on it is blue.  Is that a special type?  Where did you get that originally?

Pilot FL400R / PoofKaboom! What Causes The Swiss Cheese Effect?
« on: December 23, 2004, 07:13:07 PM »
Ludedude I realized I never did respond to your post about being able to ship the tools out early January.  That would be great.  I hope you have good luck with yours.  So you going to try the cranks yourself this time?

Probably early to mid January.
Sounds like your luck is not too good either.  Who do you get to rebuild your cranks?
