Odyssey FL350R / keeps on turning off..
« on: May 06, 2009, 08:38:22 AM »
That could be a lot of different things. I have had that exact problem many times and it has been different things.

First do a compression test for us just to see where we are on that.

Next do a leakdown test to check your seals. That one caused me a couple of rebuilds before I caught on.

I have had the TEE fitting cause that in the past also. I put a clear fuel filter in the line between the carb and the tee to ensure fuel is flowing to the carb. If it goes dry then you may have to put some kind of restriction in the return to tank line to force more positive fuel pressure to the carb. I used a very large main jet.

Odyssey FL350R / Water cooling conversion

I have not seen any large fan setups. I do have a picture of a small twin fan setup from way back in the day, late 90s I believe. I do not remember if it worked well or not but would guess that it is not as good as water cooling but better than nothing else. What kind of temps do you ride in mostly?

Running a liquid cooling system will help control the 350s inherent overheating issues. I run a CX500 cycle radiator without a pump on one of my 350s for several years and have not had a seizure since. My buddy ran the same set-up but has one stuck piston, but we think that his wide open jetting was off.

I also run a pump on my 420cc/350 connected to a switch so I can turn it on after warm-up and let it keep pumping for a good cool down after riding. The pumps are made by Bosch for heaters on European sedans like BMW, Mercedes, Audi, etc.

I add a cheap automotive dial gauge to monitor water temps at all times.

More questions or want more pics, just ask.

I appreciate the offer but its 24+ hrs from Montana and I do not have vacation scheduled. I will be back in St Louis in August for a wedding. Any chance of a gathering in the dog days of summer?

Probably have around 15" or so today and supposed to get up to 3 more tonight with continued snow turning to rain tomorrow. great.

On a lighter note while trapped inside, I am doing that plastic renew stuff to my ATC250R plastics, really looks great so far. I have all new decals so it should really look nice when I am done.

Trying to dig out the sons truck this morning, and its still snowing....

Dennis, you are right, I have to look at the glass half full, more time to work on the 420! Guarantee pics.

I grew up just north of St Louis, sure do miss St Joes too.

Not looking good for the first trip. We are supposed to get 17" of snow tonight/tomorrow and more through the weekend with 3 ft accumulations in the mountains between here and there. :x  grrrrrr  Well a couple more weekends will not kill me I guess.

Thank you very much for all the clips! I assume you put the whole thing to music then took small chunks to post. I love your suspension too. Those tires perform a lot better than I would have expected.

You guys figure out when next year you want to go and I can guarantee you I will get vacation on that trip. Late May to early June is probably the best weather, but I do not care. If I am going that far to Dead Horse Bowl, probably just ride the trike. More I think about it, I may not take the 420 on the first trip there. I have a ton of things to get it ready or fixed on it and everyone else is on quads.

My buddy has a toy hauler and will probably stay in there but I do not know where we will stay yet. You have suggestions?

Been on dunereview.com just watching the St A clips, just in awe.

Its my first trip there so I am excited. I am going with some military Raptor rider friends. I am bringing the 420/350 and the ATC250R(if it stops snowing long enough to weld the trailer back together, lol).

Anyway, anyone interested? I owe Adnoh pics. I am going to try and plumb the nitrous kit on the 420 too.

Good buy for someone needing. You might consider parting it out on ebay if nobody buys it. I have 2 spare trannys and a busted one at Weeds waiting on a rebuild, or I might snatch it up. Axles always bring over $100 each and trannys go between $200 and $500, depending on who is needing it that week.

Very sweet! Thanks, just love action pics. I am just in awe of how off balance and out of kilter you get and your suspension always lands soft, smooth and straight even on your hard pack testing track. Just great work and it shows. I am going to have to pick your brain at one of these riding trips/campfire rides on how you do it. I really love the tech/design thing, I just do not know enough about what I am doing to fab up my own stuff.

Thanks again,
Gary

Oh, I had a bit of a problem yesterday. I drove 11 hrs back into Montana, got to within 7 blocks of my apartment and I ripped the entire tongue off the light duty 5X8 trailer with my 420/350 on it. Scared the shit of of me. Could have been much worse, could have been doing 80MPH and hit someones car head on from the other direction.
