oil in starter
« on: August 30, 2018, 10:54:23 PM »

I'm new to this forum and I need some help .. I purchased a 1985 Pilot a few days ago for my grandson and after going through it and ordering parts that needed to be replaced, I found that the starter was full of oil and I mean FULL.    I read that the crank seal needs to be replaced, I cant see that this seal would allow OIL from the counter shaft or crank could get to the starter.   I haven't removed the the recoil starter or fly wheel yet, that's for tomorrow... Usually when a seal goes so does the bearing..
Thanks for your help,
Will
