burnt green wire
« on: May 13, 2024, 12:53:51 AM »
Hi fellow Odds,
I have just purchased a FL 350 that every-time you try to start the engine with the electric starter the green wire running in the plug next to the pull start heats up and smokes.
has anybody had this issue Before?

That is a ground wire. I suspect the large ground from the battery to the engine is broken/disconnected. So the entire power of the starter is flowing through that small ground wire instead.

Hi Livewire,
You were correct. The main battery earth was not bolted to the engine case and had been moved to the frame. I have corrected this and now have to replace the burnt wire to the stator and all will be good.
Cheers

Hey,
Now have a problem with it hard to start when using the starter motor, winds over quick but takes forever.
If you use the pull starter it starts no problem.
Any new updates on this issue?
