help like a mofo
« on: January 09, 2017, 06:46:08 PM »
I have an 80s model fl250 w an fl250 engine cdi
Ive rebuilt the engine  new seals, gaskets and rings, yes the lower seals...
I had spark. fuel (also rebuilt the carb, c clip in middle position on main jet  alt where i live is 1850msl  engine still wont start....
when I was pulling it the pull cord would jerk out of my hand (like the coil was firing before the piston reached tdc)
so I tested the coils in the stator and the exciter coil tested at 182ohms, so that was more than 20% less than 245ohm so I rewound the exciter coil with 36ga magnet wire and set it at 267ohms . I am getting a clear blue spark now but I think the stock wire is a larger gauge possibly  34ga  any input, i know this is kinda technical but...Ideas?  ie factory exciter coil wire gauge or something???

Are you sure the cdi is good? and yes the motor will kick back every once in a while. look back on this sight i posted to another members question more in  detail how io did it but basically i used a comprsession release in the extra head hole  to make it easier to pull and eliminates that problem and it would make it a bit easier on your arm in the mean time.
