Year Identification
« on: July 22, 2014, 01:19:51 AM »
So I posted earlier about a 84 FL250 that was for sale locally that got sold. I found another local FL250 with a couple spare units for 800.00. I can tell the red one is an earlier body style due to the straight bar behind the drivers seat. The seller said this one may have electrical issues but he couldn't quite remember.

The "custom" green and black unit I can't seem to identify. It almost looks like the body style that started in 1981. I really don't care for the looks of this one but if its got the cdi system rather than the points style of the older years it may be worth cleaning up.

The third piece is a frame and some steering components that also looks to be off an earlier year model. This one would probably be disassembled for spare parts and the rest of it sold off.

If anyone is able to help discern what year is what I would appreciate it. The units are about a hours drive from my place and I am trying to debate if I want to go take a look or if it's not even worth my time. I'm trying to get my girlfriend into off roading and she doesn't want anything to do with a dirt bike. It would be nice to have a pair of running units, but I know that chopped up one won't be worth much to collectors or enthusiasts.

Thank you all for your help.

I had my dad take a look at these today since he lives close by and it wasn't good news. He said the red one was the best of the three. It does have potentially big problems: There was no air filter present, with a wasp nest inside, and who knows how much water got inside the carb and motor and it also needs new tires. So I think I may pass. Even if i got the red one for 200.00, it would possibly need triple that in parts just to get running properly. Or it may just need disassembled, cleaned, and reassembled.

I posted a wanted ad in here telling what I was looking for. Hopefully someone near by has something for sale that will work for me. I wish I would have jumped on the first 84 250 I found....kicking my own ass for it now.

yup kick yourself because it had electric start lol. I bought another odyssey for parts best investment ever and the nada price does really tell what there worth. when things are that old they tend to make there own value. it all boils down to what someone is willing to pay for it
