This has been beaten to death here about changing an early year point ignition to a later year CDI. I've been looking, and I can find all the parts except for a flywheel...and they aint cheap.
One post her had some one suggest running a small alternator from a pulley off the rear axle. My question is: even a small motorcycle alternator, say a 40 amp one...will that put a noticeable drag on the power?
This would be strictly for 12V led driving lights. Where we ride ( NJ Pine Barrens) at night you cant even see you finger touching your nose, its that dark.

This is a setup that I run on a trike. The battery will last over 24hrs straight with the light I post below with a LED clearance light for a taillight.
