Overheating Question
« on: September 09, 2008, 08:23:17 PM »
I recently rebuilt my FL400R engine and am now unable to get it to run for more than a few minutes.  It will be going fine, then just dies - like it is seizing, but will turn over immediately - just won't restart.  It won't restart until many hours later, and then it acts like it is not getting gas, but it is.
Any ideas?

How far did you go into the rebuild?  Top end.....and lower end?  Did you do a leak down test on it before you started it?  Did you replace the crank seals?

It sounds me that you have stuck the rings or semi-seized the motor and it will only start after it will cool down.  This could be caused by a lean condition from an air leak.

I always recommend a Digatron to monitor exhaust temp so you can prevent un-nessisary rebuilds due to an air leak or improper jetting.
