FL250 problems
« on: September 03, 2008, 04:41:07 AM »

I just bought a '82 fl250 that has had the wiring butchered. I need someone to post pics and or chart for CDI plug mostly. It also came using a Ford 2 wire coil, is that a bad idea or will it work? I dont have a fuel pump but figure I can always go the gravity route. The on/off run switch is missing from the steering wheel, any thoughts on how to make it work without one? I used a volt meter and confirmed that I am getting power to atleast the yellow/light wire right now. A couple wires were broke off from the CDI plug and I am not certain where they go back into the plug. If I forgot anything let me know. I would appreciate any help you guys can give me. Thanks

Here is a link to the manual. I've never seen an FL250 with a non-stock ignition so I don't know whether or not what you have would work.

PH, did you even look through the shop manual before you responded? It has one picture of a wiring diagram that is actually kinda poor. What I need to know is where the 5 wires go that are in the CDI plug that then plug into the CDI box. I already have the shop manual along with several other wiring diagrams, but none show the CDI plug, they just show that the wires go to the CDI plug. The Ford coil is the only thing not fl250, aside from it missing the run switch. I am certain the Ford coil will work as long as to much voltage is not a problem.

If anyone has picture/wiring diagram of the CDI plug, I would appreciate it

PH, after further looking at the manual I did find what I was looking for. It was not where I thought it should be and I apologize.

I am still needing help with the on/off run switch. I am looking to get a switch for it, but what can I do in the mean time? Do I need to put both switch wires together or leave them apart? If I decide to go the gravity route on the gas tank, will I need to rejet?

On the switch. According to the diagram the switch closes the ignition circuit to the coil. So us a toggle switch until you can find a replacement.

If you go with gravity feed some have reported that the jetting does not need to be changes while others have reported that a different needle and seat are required....which ones though, I'm not sure of.
