Carbon Fiber Wheels!!!!!!!
« on: October 30, 2007, 10:12:37 PM »

Got a set of Carbon Fiber wheels for the Pilot or the Odyssey.  These things are too cool.

I got intouch with a guy that works for Hiper Tech that donated some of these to our Mini-Baja team when I was in college.  We had a set that was 4 years old and had the @#$% beat out of them.  We put them through hell 10 times over from rolls, rock climbing, endos, you name it we did it.  I called him up and I let him borrow my Pilot for a month so they could model it and build a set for me to showcase.

The outside beadlock ring can come in red, black, yellow, green, and blue.  The red and black combo looks goooood.....

Carbon Fiber is 2.7 times stronger than aluminum and weigh 20% less per cross sectional area.

They are not cheap but will out last any wheel you own.....

They are not on my site yet so if you guys are interested PM me or shoot me an email at  [email protected]

Those are too cool!!!  Any pics with them installed? How is the strength compared to the stock steel wheels?
Did they get the offset correct?

Nice Wheels, I might be interested in a set.

Glad to see this site back up and running

I've started another Pilot project, err, uhaa, I mean "Rust Project".  It sat in Kodiak Alaska in the rain for who knows how long.  I'll have to post pictures when I get some more done, in teardown stage.  Work is busy, just before the freeze, but that is a good thing, looking forward to the nice smell of "Two-Stroke Cold Smoke" in the morning.

Those wheels look sweet! Any idea on real world pricing? You posted in the FL350 section, but they were built for a pilot. Will they work on a FL350 also? Also are any mods required, or are they just bolt on and go?

Bullet proof....................

These will be interchangabe between the two models.  The rear hub still need some refinement.  The hubs that I have will work but need to be shimmed out 3/8" off the hub to work.

The ones that we are working on will have a different hub and will bolt up without any spacers.  I won't take any orders for rears untill the rear hub issue is worked out.  I will put you on the list so I can contact when they are ready.

Fronts retail for $218 each so $436 for the front pair.
Rears retail for $275 each so $550 for the rear pair
Rear Double bead-locks are $350 each so $700 for the pair.

I can take 10% off if you purchase both front and rear pair.  Now that the sticker shock has wore off.........

Dennis, I am calling Hiper tomorrow to see about the status.  I can also get them for all makes and models of quads.  I am a full dealer for all their products.

They have 5 rear pairs ready but with the current configuration the hub will either need to be turned down or longer studs installed with spacers.  I am going to eat the 5 pairs and keep them for myself.  I will just turn down the hubs on my machines.

If you look at the first picture you can see what I am talking about.  The Odyssey and Pilot hub is about 3/8" greater in diameter than the aluminum plate it mates to.  The carbon fiber portion of the wheel interferes.

I want a fool proof, bolt on application for my customers.  No alterations to your machine will be needed with the second design.

I can have the fronts shipped at any time.

How hard are custom rims to get?

My Gen IV cars use a funky pattern - 6 bolt, not sure about the bolt circle - in the rear and the front's don't even have centers.  The hubs attach to what would normally be the spot that the rim center attaches too.

If it's something that Hyper would consider, I might be in for a few sets.

Skeeter,

What is the diameter of the hubs?  Would you be interested in 10" wheels or larger.

They are working on some designs for 12" and 14" wheels for Rhinos....that is why I was put on the back burner.  I would probably need to have the hubs in hand to have them made.

Going into this we both realized that the Pilot and Odyssey market was very small verses the quad market.  If the briggs buggie shared a bolt pattern with a larger volume machine they will consider it.  I got it done because he is a Honda freak and wants a Pilot baaddddd....

They built 15,000 wheels last year and they will build 18,000 by the end of the year.....they are not slow at this time of year and it may be hard to pull them away from the real $$$$$ that can be made from the quad market.

I could have them ship the wheel with blank centers and you could have them turned and drilled if you have the means to do so.  The outer aluminum ring would be drilled to mate with the wheel and the pattern and knock out could be done at your shop........

Just a thought....

Rims are all 13"  7" rears and 5" fronts (I think - not really sure, never measured)

Rears are a 6 on probably something like a 5" ring - fronts... egad.  I'd need to take measurements.  5 on 8 or 9

The best thing would be for me to send you a front and rear.

I guess I could use the centers that came with the rims - the fronts are just the outer rings and the hub acts as the center.  That way I'd just end up with two sizes of outer rims.

You want me to take some pix and measurements?
