Problem with electric starter on 81 fl250

On my 81 250 some times the goki electric starter  seems like its not getting enough power to turn I over . I checked the battery fully charged .if I let it set and go back to it it works I put the battery in my 350 works fine .is there away to check the motor in the starter our solenoid  .if I pull the spark plug it turns it over no problem

I doubt it is the solenoid if it is trying to turn over. Possibly the starter needs a rebuild. I have not opened one of those up, but if similar to the 350, you could pull the end cap to check the condition of the brushes.

Finally got back to it  the 250 starter motor is a little different then my 350 starter motor but open es up easy I changed the brushes works great now Ty
