Finally found an Odyssey
« on: June 08, 2013, 05:33:52 PM »
I've been on the lookout for an Odyssey for a long time.  All I've found are machines that are in mint condition (and VERY expensive) or total basket cases (and VERY expensive).    I've mostly looked at FL250's because the 350 seems almost non-existant here in NY.

I picked up thie FL350 at an auction this morning.   It's been sitting outside for a long time and she's definitely a project, but everything look to be there with the exception of the front fenders.    I ended up getting her for $675 which seemed reasonable.

That's a good price! I hope the rebuild goes smooth for you.

I think I may have isolated source of my low compression....

I guess it was probably running just a little too lean.

There's a complete motor on eBay that supposedly just needs rings that'll cost me $300 shipped.   I'm tempted to go that way and part out whatever I have left after the swap.  Might be cheaper and faster than dealing with this one.

Oddly enough, it still seems to turnover freely with no unusual noises, so I guess most of the melted aluminum probably blew out the exhaust.  It doesn't sound like it's down in the bottom.

If you trust the seller on ebay, maybe. You may end up with 2 problem engines, though.

A hole in the piston is detonation. It may have been run on old gas.
