FL 350 Question...
« on: May 02, 2012, 12:43:55 PM »
Currently rebuilding an FL 350 engine and had a tech question. The SERVICE manual has a set of alignment dowels that stabilize the cylinder base to the crancases @ the base gasket flange. Where would one come up with the part number for said dowels...since Honda has no listing or item pictured in the parts fiche.

Was talking to Hood about this yesterday and a Backyard GENIUS had put this cylinder up on a GHETTO custom base gasket that must have been an attempt to change the port timing. There were no cylinder alignment dowels probably due to this...

Yeah, there is something jacked about the micro fiche on that. I think I might have just ordered them for something else. Note the ones from a Pilot are longer and won't allow the cylinder to seat.

I had talked with someone @ your shop today...do you remember what application or cross that it ended up being?!?! I had noticed the depth was significantly shorter @ the crankcase end...which would make certain dowels like the pilot useless. Want to do this right and obviously need to order an alternate part number before I seal this engine up.

I never knew what it was for, I had just figured out a part number. I guess Ruby sold them all without noting the part number so I am going to have to figure it out again. I'll have to see if I can dig up a used one out of an engine to get a length on.

Just to follow up...measured the base @ the crankcases and the cylinder. The Cyl depth to the base gasket deck is just over 12mm (12.1 and 12.3) and the crankcase depth is over 4mm. Looks like the magic measurement is gonna be 12x16 with plenty of room so as not to bottom out when installed.

For the masses...Honda Part# 94301-12160 Just ordered it...will post follow thru if correct fitment. Fits TONS of applications.

Here is a pic of the dowel and the part number...this is a correct replacement for the FL350 cylinder base dowel.
