It's a 2 stroke so the oil is in with the gas . Now with your gears there is oil but there is no drain plug on the botto the only plug is the fill plug . I tipped my son's 250 on its side to drain the old oil out . I'm glad I did I don't think the oil was ever changed in over 30 years . Did you do a leak down test on your cylinder to make sure you don't have an air leak . Pick up a Manuel you can down load one our you can buy a hard copy off Ebay its worth it to spend the money on one

I tryed to get it up on my iPad but the site would not come up I would have liked to see what your thinking about buying . How much are they asking a good running FL350 goes for about 2000. And 3500. You said your going to check the comperssion 135lb a little lower our higher is fine . Check the frame see if its been rolled make sure it's not way out of joint . You said it doesn't run well that could be a dirty carb . If you do buy it make sure you do a leak test air will kill a 2stroke fast and a fuel test . Remember they are over 30years old takes some work to keep them going and you have to like do it . I wife bought me my 1st oddy a couple of years ago I knew nothing about 2strokes every thing I had were 4 stroke 1st thing I did was get a Manuel you can find a hard copy on ebay our you can download one but I learned the most by reading these forums and asking a lot of questions I never had a problem with one of my odyssey's the guys on the forums could not help me solve . There well worth it when you get to ride them

What brand tester were you using .i had a harbor freight comperssion tester  and  I was getting a low reading 100lb with it but trying to pull start it i could tell my comperssion  was not that bad so I bought a snap on tester and my reading was 145lb . And I have the same problem with the Goki starter with the high comperssion it takes a lot of power to start it .

The pullers are not that much and if you have 2 odyssey There will come a time you will need them. The odyssey's are well over 30 years old so you have to like wrenching on them  . I have a Fl350 and my son has aFL250 and it takes a lot of work keeping them going and you have to search for most of the parts but its all worth it when you get to ride them . If you have any quotations let me know I have had my son 250 apart many times . Good luck with them

Make sure you do a comperssion test on it that well tell you a lot . There 30years old so they take a lot of care to keep them running good but oneness you ride one you don't wont any thing else .

Odyssey FL250 / Re: 1981 FL250 was running great, now won't start.
« on: July 07, 2016, 12:32:55 PM »
What kind of spark are you getting . Is it a blue strong spark . If the woodruff key broke off it would not stay running . Check your resistance on the exciter coil and the pulse coil . I think the exciter coil should be around 240 and the pulse should be between 20 and 60 . There are 3 things a 2 stroke needs to run 1 air 2 fuel 3spark . Also check your ground wire . You say it runs good when you get it to start but its very hard to start

We're are you located at . In my area NE P.A none of the atv  mechanic new any thing about the oddessey  so I had to learn myself  I have a 81 FL250 and a FL350 . First thing you will wont is a Manuel you can buy a hard copy off ebay our you can down load one . The 350 Manuel is real good shows you how to do most things on it . I learned most of what I know by reading everything off the oddy forums and asking a lot of questions . Some of these guys really know there stuff and can talk you threw most problems

Odyssey FL250 / Re: 81 fl250 help with crank seals
« on: May 28, 2016, 07:42:30 AM »
On the FL250 you have to spilt the case to get at the seals on the FL350 it's much easy'er to get at them . If your going to split the case check your bearings it's a good time to change them to if you have any play in them

If you look on the frame by the back brake caliper there should be numbers there post them then we could see what year it is . It's older then an 1980 model. Pick up a Manuel you will need it.most of the parts you'll need you can pick up on eBay . I have both the 250 and 350 and the 250 parts are a lot cheaper  .your going to wont to do a compression test and a leak test to see where your motor at . The 250 is easy to work on .
