Another newbie with a fuel question.. or two
« on: August 01, 2013, 07:41:57 AM »
Hi all, nice site, lots of great info! I was lucky enough last year to find a survivor, 1981 Odyssey. Female owned, not beat and stored inside more or less for the last 25 years. The guy I got it from had it in his garage for the last five years, took it apart, and there it sat for years. I got a buggy, a box of parts, and 2 buckets of bolts. So far I've patched a pinhole in the tank, and cleaned out as much of the rust inside as I can. The tube for reserve is clear, but I think the tube for "on" is still blocked. I soaked and rebuilt the carb. It got a new fuel pump (the square replacement), as well as the check valve. I've got it to run on gravity, but want to try to keep it as original as possible. Here is the issue. I've got it mostly together, decided to check the fuel before I go any further. Long story short, as much as I pull the pull cord, there is no fuel coming from the pump. I pulled the line off the check valve where it comes from the pump and nothing. I can't tell if it's pulling it from the tank or not because I don't have a clear filter, it's translucent and has the original holder holding it in place. Suggestions appriciated

check and make sure the hose connected to the lower crank case isnt pinched or have a hole in it.

The hose going to the crankcase is new and not pinched. I think the problem was the tube inside the tank still being partially blocked, as well as the petcock being partially blocked. I took it back apart and spent some time with some small wire cleaning it out again. I still only have reserve clear, but liquid flows freely out of the hole now at a good rate. I'll get it back together in the morning and see what happens.
