Belt Squeal at Low Speed
« on: June 26, 2009, 05:50:41 PM »
I test drove a 90 FL400R today, and it makes a noise that sounds like a belt squealing.  It happened just a few times, and typically happened at low speed on deceleration or acceleration.  The sound lasts just a second or two.

This is the first Pilot I've ever been around, so I'm wondering if this is just a normal noise during engagement, or a symptom of something more serious.  In general, the unit looks practically brand new, and is completely stock.

Your help is appreciated.

It's real hard to tell something like this without hearing it ourselves. Some belt noise is to be expected, but not much squeling.

If you get back to the Pilot, take a look at the belt and run your hard over the inside of the drive clutch (where the belt rides). The feel should be smooth. Deep wavy grooves are a bad sign. It  could also be a worn belt.
The usual 'my two cents' disclaimer applies. :)
